Work is a
social activity. Individuals are crucial, but teams do the work
that really makes a business difference. Teams work together loosely
or tightly, intermittently or continuously, briefly or extensively,
and either co-located or distributed around the world. Even in
the same team, different ways of working apply at different times.
We call this process project braiding.
The quality
of braiding a team achieves depends on the quality of the tools
they use. Unfortunately, compared to the richness and quality
of tools for individuals, tools designed for teams lag well behind.
We believe teams deserve better.
Developed
from a multi-year research project carried out by The
Appliance Studio, Quorum draws its inspiration from the whiteboard
and flipcharts found in many meeting rooms. Often un-used, these
shared visual spaces are actually a very powerful tool. For those
who use them, the whiteboards or flipcharts are an invaluable
way to communicate vision, share ideas, and record information.
But an ordinary
whiteboard has limitations. It’s got a small capacity, it
can’t be seen by those outside the room, and its content
is lost as soon as it’s erased. It’s also difficult
to use pre-prepared information and – most importantly –
its physical location on a wall at the front of the room is often
inappropriate.
Much more
than just an electronic whiteboard, but just as easy to use, Quorum
provides a shared visual space which overcomes all these limitations.
It delivers the benefits of visual thinking to all teams, local
or distributed. Its unique design makes it more effective and
better value than competing products.
